5 THINGS YOU NEED TO DO THIS SUMMER

5 THINGS.jpg

So, we are all well into summer at this point.  I hope you are lounging on the sofa, eating sno cones, swimming, vacationing, and all the other things that come along with sweet, summer break!

Perhaps, you have even gotten bored. How glorious!

But, if you would like some guidance on how to maximize some of your minutes this summer, I have a few thoughts to share in a countdown below.

FIVE

PLAN.   Be honest, school bubbles up in your mind more than you would like to admit.  And,  plans for the upcoming year begin taking form.  Take some time to put it in writing.  Plan your first week, draft your first six week, or, if you are feeling particularly industrious,  even write a scope of sequence of the year!  Regardless, you will thank yourself later.  Trust me.

FOUR

REORGANIZE / REDECORATE.   During the hustle and bustle of the school year the last thing on your mind is changing out faded curtains or cleaning out the monster filing cabinet. But, now is the time!  If you are considering this, I highly recommend checking out my four videos on the topic.  They can be found HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.   Or, if you think you might consider exploring flexible seating, check out this post to help you get started.

THREE

PLAY ONLINE.   You might be thinking, "Check, I've got that covered!"   So, let me clarify.   I'm not talking about searching Pinterest for a new brownie recipe or filling your Amazon cart with twelve things you suddenly can't live without.   Instead, check out the latest apps and websites you could potentially put to use next fall.    Or, even connect with and follow other educators who inspire you on Facebook and Instagram.  SHAMELESS PLUG:  I would love for you to follow my daily adventures by following me on Facebook and Instagram.

TWO

READ.   Of course, there are thousands of inspiring and educational books out there to help you grow as an educator.  Summer book studies are a genius.  Connect with others and tap into a wealth of knowledge.  But, I also highly encourage you to set aside some time to read for pleasure.  I will be posting my summer reading list soon!

ONE

REST.   Don't laugh this one off.  We all need true, deep, rest.  Yes, that means sleep in every once in a while!  Take advantage of the time to catch up, but also take time to relax and reconnect with those you love.  Maybe you even need time to connect with yourself.  It is easy to get lost in the craziness of daily life.  So, promise you will take time to unplug and rest over the summer.

Have you already hit a few things on the list?  Did I miss something critical?  Let me know.  Bottom line, be sure you do number one.  More than anything it will make you happier, healthier, and ultimately, a better educator!  Happy Summer!
