REFRESH FOR 2019
Yes, that is me (and Zoe)! I’m not sure if, at that moment, I was getting ready to take advantage of the JCrew clearance sale or writing this post, but chilling on the sofa with my buddy was relaxing. And, relaxing is something I’m trying to embrace this new year. I’m not one to making a laundry list of resolutions, but I can get behind a few intentions or carefully considered changes that will make an impact. So, as you enjoy your final days at home this holiday break, consider the following:
Inspire yourself by learning something new. Return to the classroom with a new strategy or instructional practice under your belt. In this day and time, the access to inspiring and fresh strategies is limitless. Spend just 15 intentional minutes (or less) and delve in. If you are looking for inspiration, I’m always a fan of teachingchannel.org or edutopia.org. Remember, inspired teachers inspire students!
Add or refine a classroom procedure. Do a brief replay in your mind of last semester. Were there any gaps in management where you could insert a new procedure or routine? Or, perhaps, just some refining would do the trick. The most effective classrooms I see are always those with a strong classroom management foundation strengthened by procedure and routine.
Commit to self care. Educators, we tend to not be the best at this, right? Everyone and everything is prioritized over ourselves. I’m also preaching to myself here, as this is one of my new year’s intentions. Whether it is soaking in the bath, having a morning quiet time, or just enjoying some fresh air on a walk, make time for you and things that give you respite and peace.
And, being January I am also thinking about planning future blog posts. Can I ask a favor? Will you please email or comment below if there are any topics you would like for me to cover in the upcoming year? While this is a great place for me to reflect and share, I always want it to feel relevant and practical for you. So, I’m all ears!
Happy New Year, friends!
