SPRING FEVER IS REAL- HOW TO SURVIVE IT!

I don't think there is an educator out there that would argue with the fact that spring fever is a very REAL phenomenon.

Let's face it,  you personally are likely feeling a case of spring fever coming on as well.  The last weeks tend to be the most challenging.

So, how do we survive it and possibly even thrive?

Check out these tips below.

Make your classroom a livelier place.

If you are bored, your students are likely feeling the same.  At this time of year we need to bring out all the stops.  Novelty sells.  So, how can we harness it in the classroom?  Maybe start class with the meme of the day?   Include some fun video clips.  Do something sudden and unexpected.  Your kids will thank you.

Get some fresh air.

Venture outdoors even for 5-10 minutes for a reset.  It's amazing what a little nature can do for you.

Provide more frequent breaks.

Remember, when the bum goes numb the brain goes dumb. And, drowning on longer than kids can focus (1 minute per year of age with a max of 10-12), never yields the results you want.  Even a simple turn and talk to your partner can reinvigorate their thinking.

Give more choices.

Who doesn't like to make their own choices?  As things slow down, let students have the opportunity to share their creativity and interests.  Let them choose a topic and go on a learning adventure.

Keep on teaching.

When you quit, the students do as well.  Keep teaching, and your students will continue learning.  If the standards have been covered, use this as an opportunity to teach those things you never quite have enough time to cover during the year but really want to teach.  End the year with a bang!
