While most of us have said a joyous goodbye to virtual learning, let’s avoid throwing the baby out with the bath water. Personally, I have found some of the websites and platforms I learned about last year to be game changers! Below are two that I believe are worth investigating this school year.

EDPUZZLE

“Easily create beautiful interactive video lessons for your students you can integrate right into your LMS,” is the claim of Edpuzzle. And, it’s true! You can take any video and embed your own questions to customize the content. Gone are the days of watching a video with a handout of questions afterwards. Now we have the luxury of students responding in real time as they watch. As you can imagine, this also produces an uptick in student engagement.

INSERT LEARNING

If you like the premise of Edpuzzle, you will also be a fan of Insert Learning. Insert Learning describes their approach as, “Teachers can insert questions, discussions, and insight directly into any website. When students go to that website, they can respond to those questions and discussions, see that insight, and take their own notes,” So, you can imagine the possibilities! You can also probably see how this would reduce students getting sucked into the endless rabbit holes of the interweb as they are provided some clarity and direction.

I’ve had teachers literally shriek when they discovered these two options. I’m hoping one, if not both, will be a match for you this school year. And, as I always remind teachers, do a quick search on your own on YouTube for videos specific to your grade level/content areas based on these platforms. You will likely be surprised by what you find!
